EUC has character encoding maps for English characters and
numbers. However, these mappings are double-byte
characters and do not correspond to the ASCII encoding maps.
EUC and ASCII can be used in the same document and often are.
Problems occur if double-byte EUC characters are inputted into
a document or database and single-byte ASCII characters are
entered for the search.
In the screen capture below, I have shown both ASCII and EUC
characters in the same document. Note that the EUC characters
are larger and take up double the width of the ASCII
characters. Below this, there is a sample of some special
characters that are not Kanji, but do not appear in ASCII
in double-byte form.
