What are TLUG Mailing Lists About

The main list (tlug@tlug.jp) focuses on issues which generally revolve around the following:

1. Software issues concerning linux/unix operating systems
2. Software issues concerning tools, programs, etc.
3. Technical software issues concerning Open Source Code
4. Hardware-related issues
5. Books / Book reviews
6. Linux-related jobs
7. Announcements of Linux-related events in Japan
8. Why should I use Linux and not some other OS?
9. What is Open Source and which way should it go?
10. Why does Open Source Code work (or not work)?
11. Jokes, General Conversation (hopefully linux related :-)

Questions like, "What is Linux?" are accepted, but you may find that the answer is a pointer to another web page or FAQ. Many questions are of the, "I'm trying to get this widget to work with Linux, and I'm having trouble here. Any ideas?" variety. There is a great deal of discussion about using Japanese on Linux. Also, make sure to check the searchable mailing list archive with this username and password: /

The admin list (tlug-admin@tlug.jp) focuses on administration issues of the tlug organization itself, and includes (but is not limited to) the following topics:

1. TLUG server issues
2. TLUG webpages
3. TLUG mailing Lists
4. TLUG meetings/Nomikais
5. TLUG finances
6. TLUG projects (CD-ROMs, T-Shirts, etc)

Feel free to join the lists.

How to Join Mailing Lists

To join the main tlug mailing list you can:

• use the web interface provided by Mailman
• send e-mail to:
  tlug-request@tlug.jp
  The subject line must be: subscribe
  To unsubscribe from the main tlug mailing list send e-mail to:
  tlug-request@tlug.jp
  The subject line must be: unsubscribe
  

You can use the web interface to specify that you prefer to receive postings in digest form, which are normally sent once per day (or occasionally more frequently if list volume dictates).

For the tlug-admin list, you can use the web interface or email tlug-admin-request with your subscribe and unsubscribe requests.
